Peñón–Cambute Restoration & Natural Park
(Reforestation, Shade, and Trails)
Start: 2024
Stage: Active
End: 2027
1. Our Goal
The goal of this project is to restore the coastal forest ecosystem and natural beauty between Peñón de Arío and Poza del Cambute, a State Natural Heritage Area (PNE) affected by erosion and loss of forest cover. The project aims to provide a shaded pedestrian walkway between the two attractions and shaded public gathering areas in front of each site.
2. Project actions include:
Ecological restoration: planting native coastal species, forest regeneration, and implementing erosion mitigation.
Reorganization of roads and public spaces: collaboration with the municipality to move the street out of the public area and establish parking zones.
Coordination with ICE to bury electrical wiring in order to avoid tree trimming and allow a canopy to grow.
Coordination with SINAC to protect the PNE in this area.
Collaboration with the Municipality of Cobano for road, parking, and park facilities; Costas Verdes and private companies for machinery, rocks, species, and technical assistance.
